Covering A Character Cake In Buttercream

I love Character cakes so much, they always bring so much joy and excitement to the kids they are made for.

There are a number of character cake pan available to chose from to create that cake the kids absolutely love. And the cakes can be covered with either butter cream or fondant.

Today I am going to explain how to cover a character cake in buttercream.

Tools and ingredients:

A character pan (in this case I am using a Spider-Man pan)
Small pallette knife
Piping bag
Star tip ( either 16,18 or 21)
Writing tip (I used tip 2
Vanilla sponge cake batter (See the recipe here)
Butter cream (See the recipe here)

Get a character baking pan, there are a lot of character pans in the market in this case I am using a Spiderman pan. Prepare the pan for baking ( grease the pan thoroughly and dust it with flour).

Prepare your batter and pour into the already prepared baking pan until it is 3/4 full.

Bake in a preheated oven until a toothpick/knife inserted comes out clean.

Trim off the raised top of the cake and turn it and attach it on the board with buttercream.
Depending on the colours of the cake, prepare your buttercream. After making the buttercream, share it into the number of colours on the cake, in this case, my cake has 4 colours

Using a small spatular cover the sides of the cake in buttercream and neaten the edge.
Put black buttercream in your piping bag and using tip 3 mark out the indents on the cake.
Put a bit of cream coloured buttercream in your piping bag and pipe stars using any of the star tips of your choice in the eyes and other areas of the cake that are white/cream.
Do the same for both the blue and red until the cake is covered and viola!!!!!
You have your cake beautifully covered.
