Basic Equipments

Hello, hope you are having a great week? Today we are going to be talking about some of the equipment’s that are absolutely necessary to create mouthwatering cakes and snacks.

Scale: A measuring scale is necessary to ensure accuracy of measurement when following recipes. It is used when your recipe has ingredients in Kilograms and Grams. If your measurements are wrong, you will not get the desired results.

There are two types of scales:
Digital


Analog scale

Whichever you can afford, ensure you get one.


Measuring cups and spoons:
Basic measuring spoon sets include measures for 1/8 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 tablespoon and 1 tablespoon.



Measuring spoons are used for measuring small amounts of ingredients such as spices, leaveners, and extracts, and very small amounts of liquids.






Basic dry measuring cups are purchased in a set that includes 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup.


 
Liquid Measuring Cups:


liquid measuring cup All liquid ingredients, such as water, milk, or juice are measured in a liquid measuring cup. Liquid measuring cups should be made of clear glass or plastic, have a pouring spout, and have clear measurement markings on the side.



Mixing bowls: A good set of mixing bowls will be your constant companion while baking, used for mixing, whipping creams or egg whites, preparing ingredients, raising breads, or just storing food in the refrigerator.
There are different kinds of mixing bowls.
Glass bowls:

Glass bowls are also microwave safe and can be used on top of a double boiler. 






Stainless steel bowls:
Stainless steel bowls are another good all-around choice; they are lightweight, durable, and can be heated, but can tend to dent easily and are not microwave safe.



Plastic bowls:
Plastic bowls are cheap and readily available, but they tend to break easily too and will absorb odors and fat which can transfer into your ingredients. 

You need different sizes of bowls.

Whisk:

A whisk is a cooking utensil used in food preparation to blend ingredients smaooth or to incorporate air into the mixture. Most whisk consists of a long, narrow handle with a series of wire loops joined at the end.



Rolling Pin: 
 A rolling pin is a long round cylinder used to roll out dough or crush cracker crumbs, rolling pins are generally made from wood, but can be made from marble, glass, ceramic, porcelain or plastic.



Mixer: 
For  ease of creaming and mixing of ingredients you need to invest in an electric mixer.
An electric mixer is a kitchen appliance used to beat, mix or whip batter. Electric mixers can be small and portable for small jobs or larger and more powerful for more difficult jobs. Many of the more powerful stand mixers have special attachments such as dough hooks or paddle beaters. 
Electric mixers take the stress off you and ensures you get the best results. They also make your work faster.

There are two main types of mixer:
The hand mixer:








 The stand mixer




Baking pans: 
You need different types of baking pans in which to bake your cakes, pies, and cookies. What you are baking will determine the kind of pan to use. 
You have 
Baking sheets: Flat, rigid, metal sheet, made of aluminum used for baking cookies and biscuits.
Muffin pans: Usually used for making cup cakes.
Cake pans: These come in different shapes and sizes for baking cakes.
Bread pans: Used for baking bread.

Oven: 

An oven is a thermally insulated chamber used for the heating, baking or drying of a substance.
You can use the oven that came with your gas cooker, or a locally fabricated oven.







Cooling rack:

Primarily, the cooling rack functions as a way to cool down baked goods, they come indifferent sizes and are usually made of metal. You can find round, square and rectangular racks. Never use a rack that is too small for the size of cake you are baking, because this is one sure way of ensuring your cake cracks 





Turn table: 

These are revolving cake stands with non-slip pad. They make it easy for you to reach all parts of the cake easily while decorating and the non slip pad ensures the cake board stays in place while decorating.




Palette knives: 


Palette knives are often referred to as icing spatulas are the perfect tool to use for spreading icing as well as jams, fillings and other spreads. The flexible blade and sturdy handle make them great for handling delicate decorations or trimming edges to create a flawless finish.




Pastry Bags, couplers and nozzles:  


Pastry bags and pastry tips are used to pipe decorative borders of icing or chocolate onto cakes and cookies, pastry bags are available in plastic lined canvas that is reusable, or disposable bags made of parchment or plastic.
 Decorating tips also known as nozzles, are available in a huge array of designs and sizes. They are made of stainless steel or chrome-plated, and placed in the small end of the piping bag with the use of couplers.
 









Cake combs:


Cake combs are used to  Run edge across your iced cake to form beautiful ridges.





With these basic equipments you are good to go.
